Government approves housing search ration card scheme

Chennai: The Government of Tamil Nadu has approved the implementation of the scheme of sending new ration cards to the homes of the beneficiaries by post.
New ration cards are being issued on behalf of the Food Distribution Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. For this, one has to apply on the website ‘www.tnpds.gov.in’. After reviewing it, the Assistant Commissioners of Food Supply and Circular Distribution Officers will review and approve the new ration card. The printed card is sent to the concerned offices and handed over to the beneficiaries.
Complaints arose that the offices were deliberately delaying the issuance of the ration card. Thus it was decided to send the printed ration card by post to the houses of the beneficiaries. The government has sought permission from the Department of Food Supply to implement the scheme.
The government which considered it has given its approval and ordered. Accordingly, when applying for a ration card, those who wish to receive it by post will have to pay a postage of Rs. 25 online. There is a charge of Rs.20 for a copy card and Rs.25 for postage, for a total of Rs.45.
