The festival of Pongal is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over Tamil Nadu. Pongal is celebrated every year on the first day of Thai month as a festival to thank the sun and nature which is the source of all life.

Accordingly, all over Tamil Nadu, from early in the morning, all the people wear new clothes and make colorful kolams, put turmeric and kumkum in the Pongal pot and tie a yellow horn plant to the auspicious Buddhirisi and celebrate Pongal with enthusiasm.
