Chief Minister Stalin Forms Committee to Address Caste and Ethnic Divisions Among Students

Chennai: In response to the recent incident of a brutal attack on a school student and his family by fellow students in Nanguneri, Tirunelveli district, Chief Minister Stalin has taken swift action. He has ordered the formation of a one-man committee, led by retired judge K. Chanduru, to advise the government on measures to be taken to eliminate caste and ethnic divisions among school and college students.

Expressing his dismay over the incident, Chief Minister Stalin stated that the attack has shocked and pained the people of Tamil Nadu. He reiterated his government’s commitment to creating a society where humanity supersedes factors like caste, religion, and creed. The government aims to promote socio-economic development for all citizens.

“This incident has caused me great pain. The future society should be free from regressive thoughts like caste and religion and should foster brotherhood,” Chief Minister Stalin said in an official statement. He emphasized that the government is actively working on various initiatives, including education, skill development, and employment growth, to build a new Tamil Nadu.

The Nanguneri incident has shed light on the unnecessary involvement of some students in caste and ethnic issues. Chief Minister Stalin immediately dispatched Finance and Human Resource Management Minister Thangam Thenararasu to meet the victim and his family and offer condolences. Additionally, School Education Minister Anpil Mahes Poiyamozhi announced that the government would cover the higher education expenses of the victim.

Recognizing the detrimental impact of caste and ethnic sentiments among the younger community, Chief Minister Stalin stressed the need for immediate action. He has directed the one-man committee, headed by retired Justice K. Chanduru, to propose steps to eradicate such divisions among school and college students. The committee will seek opinions from various stakeholders, including academicians, students, parents, social thinkers, and the media industry. The aim is to create an environment where no caste or ethnic divisions exist among students.

“I have ordered the committee to submit a comprehensive report to the government based on the opinions received from different parties,” Chief Minister Stalin stated. The committee is expected to provide recommendations promptly.

As Tamil Nadu strives towards a more inclusive society, the government’s proactive measures demonstrate its commitment to addressing caste and ethnic divisions among students. The formation of the one-man committee heralds a new chapter in the state’s journey towards fostering harmony and unity among its younger generation.
