The governor of the central bank has said that he will negotiate with the holders of US dollar bonds within two months if they are unable to repay their loans.

The governor made the announcement while responding to accusations that Sri Lanka has not yet taken a clear stance on debt restructuring with dollar bondholders.

In this regard, he further stated that an agreement should be reached within the next two months regarding the restructuring of the 13 billion dollar debt received from the holders of these dollar bonds.

While there is a lot of interest from private lenders to conclude this as soon as possible, the governor has indicated that it will take some time due to the process.

Meanwhile, Zambia and other countries are still struggling with delays in restructuring their debts. Experts attribute this to disagreements between Beijing and other lenders over debt relief.
