UC San Diego Women’s Volleyball Program Begins Search for New Head Coach
A national search is underway for a new leader of the UC San Diego women’s volleyball program, following the departure of Head Coach Melanie Greene. The announcement signals a pivotal moment for the Tritons as they navigate their transition to NCAA Division I competition within The Big West conference.
Greene concluded her two-year tenure with a 23-37 overall record, including a 15-21 mark in conference play. Her leadership culminated in a 2024 Big West tournament appearance, where the Tritons entered as the fifth seed.
“Coach Greene has transitioned out of her role to pursue new opportunities,” stated Director of Athletics Andy Fee. “We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
A New Era for UC San Diego Athletics
The coaching change arrives as UC San Diego continues to establish itself in Division I after two decades of success in NCAA Division II. The university boasts an impressive athletic history, having secured 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships across its 24 sports.

Over 1,400 student-athletes have earned All-America honors, and 84 have been recognized as Academic All-Americans.
