US coach Gregg Berhalter has been reappointed to his post as United States coach six months after his departure, the American football federation, US Soccer, announced on Friday.
Gregg Berhalter, who led the United States to the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar, eliminated by the Netherlands, was not reappointed at the end of last year amid of a domestic violence case dating back to 1991.
His reinstatement comes after an investigation entrusted by US Soccer to an independent law firm, to find a successor in the perspective of the World Cup-2026, which the United States is co-organizing with Mexico and Canada.
«When I started this search, I wanted to find someone with the right vision to take this team to new heights in 2026,explained the technical director of the federation, Matt Crocker, in a press release.
«Gregg has that vision, as well as the experience and development spirit on and off the pitch to lead this team“, he added.
The names of several potential candidates, such as the former American coach of Leeds, Jesse Marsch, or the former French international Patrick Vieira have been cited in the media, but Berhalter benefited from the support of certain executives of the selection.

Alerted to an argument that occurred in 1991, during which Berhalter had kicked his future wife, Rosalind, when they were already together, the American federation had turned to an independent law firm.
