Gregoria Mariska Tunjung experienced a​ mix of emotions after ⁣securing‍ a ⁤bronze medal ‍at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Indonesian badminton⁣ player was confirmed for​ the medal after her opponent, Carolina Marin (Spain), ​withdrew from their semifinal match ‌due to injury.

Jorji, as Gregoria is affectionately known, was originally scheduled to play for bronze today, Monday (5/8/2024), after losing to An Seyoung (Korea) in the semifinals. However, Marin’s withdrawal granted‌ her the bronze medal without further competition.

“I’m confused, it’s really wrong⁤ for me to be happy with other ‌people’s suffering,” Gregoria said in‍ his statement. “This is‍ a ⁣disaster for Marin, but I’m confused about how to react.”

This medal ⁣marks the first for Indonesian women’s singles since Maria Kristin’s bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
