Greater Spokane league Gymnastics: A Team-by-Team Look at the 2024 Season
The 2024 Greater Spokane league gymnastics season is poised too be a competitive one, with returning talent and new leadership shaping the landscape for local teams. Here’s a complete look at each program, in alphabetical order.
Central Valley Bears
The Central Valley Bears are optimistic heading into the new season, building on a foundation of state experience. Last year, senior Kylie Morais placed 25th in the all-around competition at the state level. Returning to the varsity squad are senior dakota Buege and juniors Lilah Haymore and Kali Geissinger. “We have an amazing and talented group of girls this year,” a team spokesperson said. “They are positive and excited for the season and ready to hit the floor running and flipping. They are in the gym everyday ready to work hard.”
Mead Panthers
The Mead Panthers will look to continue their success after a strong 2023 season, where they secured the league championship and finished third at both the district and state competitions. While the team has lost key athletes – including Dezlyn Lundquist, who finished fifth in the all-around at state, along with Tabitha pierce and Abagail Fielding – they return eight letterwinners.”We graduated four solid seniors who were a very big part of our program,” a coach stated. “This group will be stepping into a new role of competing all around more consistently.” Senior Delaney Christoff and sophomore Makena Christoff, both first-team all-GSL performers and state participants, are expected to lead the Panthers.
mt. Spokane Wildcats
A new era begins for the Mt. Spokane Wildcats with Chloe McQuesten taking the helm as head coach, following her recognition as state assistant coach of the year last season. The team will need to fill the void left by state qualifiers Aleah DeWitt and Nora Houske, both all-around competitors. Though, junior Layla Meyer and sophomore Lily Gammon, both state participants, return to provide experience. McQuesten is also enthusiastic about the potential of incoming ninth-graders Savannah Haney and Evelin Williams.
North Central Wolfpack
The North Central Wolfpack enjoyed a accomplished 2023,finishing first in the 3A/2A district and placing eighth as a team at state. Despite the graduation of state placer Brooklyn Lawrence, the Wolfpack boast significant returning talent. Senior Jasper Stapleton (beam) and sophomores Olivia Aronsen (all-around) and Reagan Cook (all-around) all placed at state last year, as did district placer Adele Iannelli (vault). Newcomer juniors Lizzy Riggs (vault) and alaina Browell (bars) are anticipated to make an immediate impact.
University Titans
University High School enters the 2024 season with christine Curtis in her second year as coach. The Titans return three letterwinners: senior Kyla Roberts (all-around), junior Madi Fox (all-around), and sophomore Kennedi Downie (bars, beam, floor).
