What foreigners with residency permits or iqamas in Saudi need to know to renew them.. As part of the country’s digital services, expatriates, their dependents and registered domestic workers can renew their iqamas through the government’s Abshar platform. For renewal of Iqama, the due fee for the requested period has to be paid. Traffic violations should also be dealt with in advance. Passport must be valid. Should not be registered as absentee from work. Also, fingerprints of the head of the household and dependents above the age of six should be available in the system, each with their own passport.
Expatriates in the country can get three-month residency permits for the same period with the option of renewal. They can also save a digital copy of the Iqama on their smartphones. This will be possible under a system that started in 2021. Iqama fees can be paid quarterly or bi-annually using a government payment system.
Saudi Arabia is a country of approximately 32.2 million people. Many foreign workers work here. A recent census put foreigners at about 13.4 million or 41.5 percent of the country’s total population.
Saudi Arabia has recently adopted decisions that benefit expatriates. Foreigners on exit/re-entry visas can return to Saudi Arabia until the last day of their valid visa.
