Gujarat authorities have uncovered a massive state-wide tax evasion ring involving bogus input tax credits totaling more than crores of rupees across multiple operations. The state Goods and Services Tax department arrested several individuals, including a father-son duo from Jamnagar and Ajaykumar Satyanarayan Shah tied to Natraj Industries, following raids across major cities.
Statewide Raids Target Multi-City Tax Evasion Network
The scale of the operation spanned several commercial hubs across the state. Investigators from the state Goods and Services Tax department launched simultaneous search operations targeting major cities including Jamnagar, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Surat, and Bhavnagar. The coordinated raids followed intelligence reports indicating that certain traders were generating fake invoices to siphon money from the government treasury.
The department’s actions uncovered an estimated 128-crore-rupee tax scam centered in Jamnagar, marking one of the largest actions against tax fraud undertaken by the SGST administration.
Brass and Copper Scrap Operations Under Scrutiny
Investigators discovered that the fraudulent network operated largely through paper transactions rather than the actual movement of physical goods. In Jamnagar, the Mandovara Trading Company allegedly generated massive fake bills under the guise of trading brass and copper scrap.
In a parallel scheme detailed by Gujaratsamachar, Ajaykumar Satyanarayan Shah utilized his position as the owner of Natraj Industries and a partner in Natraj Metal Industries to orchestrate similar paper transactions.
Arrests and Seizures Drive Further Forensic Audits
Enforcement actions have already resulted in key detentions. Officials arrested a father-son duo running the Jamnagar-based trading operation, along with Ajay Shah from Natraj Industries. The arrests have caused considerable concern across the state’s trading community.
During the raids, tax officials seized account books, computer hard drives, and digital equipment from the suspect firms. Forensic specialists are examining these data files to map out the full extent of the conspiracy.
What Lies Ahead for the Investigation
The financial figures involved are expected to rise as forensic reviews proceed. Officials indicated that the ongoing scrutiny of seized documents and digital evidence will likely uncover additional intermediaries, hidden masterminds, and broader tax evasion totals across other commercial sectors.
