Lucknow: Captain Rohit Sharma’s performance in the first T20I against Sri Lanka (IND vs SL). Rohit’s innings helped Team India to a good start after losing the toss and opting to bat. Rohit scored 44 runs, including two fours and a six. With this, Rohit has achieved a historic feat. The Indian captain holds the record for most runs in T20 cricket.
Rohit overtook Martin Guptill of New Zealand. The Kiwis opener scored 3299 runs. Rohit scored 3307 runs in 123 T20 matches. Former India captain Virat Kohli is third. Kohli has scored 3296 runs. Kohli has scored the most runs in 97 matches.
Rohit has scored four centuries and 26 fifties in the T20 format. The only difference between Guptill and Collie is a slight small run. Therefore, this achievement may be surpassed by one or two good innings. Virat Kohli is out of the Sri Lanka series. He has been rested. Gupta has not had any fish in recent times. Therefore, the record is safe in Rohit’s account for a short time.
India beat Sri Lanka by 62 runs. Chasing India’s target of 200, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 137 in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets. Sri Lanka’s top scorer was Charith Asalanka with 53 not out. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer took two wickets each.
Ishant Kishan (89) and Shreyas Iyer (57) were the other batsmen to score in the innings. Ishaan was also the star of the match. Shreyas was not out. With the win in the first match, India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
