Police investigating the disappearance of four-year-old Gus Lamont have named a person residing at the family’s outback station as a suspect in the case.

A person living at Oak Park station in South Australia is now a suspect in the disappearance of four-year-old Gus Lamont, police announced Thursday. The development marks a meaningful shift in the investigation into the boy’s disappearance, which began over four months ago.
Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, the officer in charge of major crime, said police had identified “inconsistencies and discrepancies” in data provided by people connected to the case. Consequently, the individual has withdrawn their cooperation with investigators and is now considered a suspect, Fielke stated.
“The person who has withdrawn their co-operation is now considered a suspect in the disappearance of Gus,” Fielke said. He stressed, however, that Gus’s parents are not suspects.
Gus Lamont disappeared from his family’s 60,000-hectare sheep station near Yunta, approximately 300 kilometers inland from Adelaide, on September 27. The search involved mounted police, divers, defense and emergency services personnel, drones, and trackers, and was described by SA police as “one of the largest, most intensive and most protracted searches” thay had ever undertaken.
Police have ruled out the possibility that Gus wandered off or was abducted. The investigation is now focused on the individual who has ceased cooperating with authorities.
“You appreciate at this time I cannot make any further comment about the suspect, given that this is now a criminal investigation and a declared major crime,” fielke said. “what I can say, though, is that we’ll continue to thoroughly and meticulously investigate the disappearance of Gus until we get an outcome.”
“The community should take comfort that no stone is being left unturned in this investigation,” Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said.
Gus was last seen playing outside the family station at 5 p.m. He was wearing a blue T-shirt with a yellow Minion on the front, a gray sun hat, light-grey long pants, and boots. His grandmother reported him missing when she whent to call him in half an hour later.
The investigation has faced challenges, including battling AI-generated misinformation and sifting through unhelpful information from the public, according to police.
