Darmstadt-Dieburg – Attention horror fans!

The famous “Frankenstein Castle” in the Odenwald, which has always been associated with the legendary monster from Mary Shelley’s novel, has sad news to announce. After more than four decades, Europe’s largest Halloween spectacle, which attracted thousands of horror enthusiasts from all over the world every year, will take place for the last time at its traditional location near Mühltal (Darmstadt-Dieburg).

The reason for the move is due to the extensive renovation work that is pending on the 13th century castle. The terror won’t go away! The Halloween festival with the motto “The Darkness gets a new home” moves to the imposing Königstein Castle in the town of the same name Königstein (Hochtaunus).

Organizer Ralph Eberhardt announced the news on Wednesday, ending a months-long struggle over the future of the festival. A state parliament committee even tried to mediate between the organizer and the Hesse State Construction and Real Estate Office (LBIH). It initially seemed as if a workable compromise could be found. But ultimately the situation proved to be an insurmountable hurdle between desire and reality.

After thorough examination, Eberhardt had to make the difficult decision that it was no longer possible to economically and logistically hold the series of events at Frankenstein Castle beyond 2023. But: The Halloween festival will certainly be just as frightening and unforgettable in its new home at Königstein Castle. This will also be a spectacle that you shouldn’t miss!

May the horror be with you!
