/ Informed Arab sources reported on Sunday that the Hamas movement requested in the Cairo negotiations to stop pursuing the faction leaders or targeting them, according to the Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath website.

The site added: The movement requested Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip to engage further in the negotiations, stipulating that residents return to northern Gaza without restrictions.

It also proposed a long-term, extended truce during the negotiations, and not to raise or discuss the issue of exiling the leaders outside Gaza.

This comes as the return of thousands of displaced people to the northern Gaza Strip continues to constitute the main remaining point of disagreement between the two sides, according to what was previously stated by officials from the United States, Israel and Egypt, as the Israeli side expressed its openness to allow the return to the north at a rate of two thousand people per day, but most of them are women and children. According to what Arab mediators participating in the talks revealed, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Israel also stipulated the return of a maximum of 60,000 Palestinians, excluding men between the ages of 18 and 50.

In this context, Arab officials explained that the return of displaced Gazans may begin ten days to two weeks after the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, which will last for six weeks, if it is finally agreed upon.

However, “returnees must pass through Israeli military checkpoints to prevent Hamas fighters from infiltrating the north again,” according to Israeli and Egyptian officials.

On the other hand, Hamas rejects these conditions and insists on removing checkpoints and preserving the reunification of families returning to the north, refusing to deport adult males.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Hamas movement said that a delegation from it headed by Khalil al-Hayya would go to Cairo in response to an Egyptian invitation to participate in the negotiations.

But it renewed its adherence to its position and demands for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the return of the displaced to their places of residence, and freedom of movement for Palestinians, relief and shelter.
