Sales of consumer PCs have been declining in France since the beginning of the year with declines ranging between -12 and -15% depending on the month. The years 2020 and 2021 had halted a negative spiral of seven consecutive years of decline in favor of tablets and smartphones. Boosted by the equipment needs of consumers stuck at home, purchases had experienced seven quarters of madness and double-digit sales increases. So much so that the heavyweights of the sector, Asus, HP, Lenovo and Acer, had suffered stock shortages on certain models during this period. This strong demand had, in passing, come up against production problems with the crisis in the electronic components market, but also with logistical problems with delivery.
