Actor and DMD leader Vijayakanth is celebrating his 70th birthday today (August 25). Vijayakanth, who attracted the fans by giving many hits in Tamil cinema, stepped into politics and rose to become the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly.
Chief Minister Stalin, Leader of Opposition Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan and other political leaders and screen celebrities are congratulating Vijayakanth on his birthday.
After about 40 years in Tamil cinema, Golochiya Vijayakanth left acting and entered full-time politics. In 2006, he started a party called Demuthika and contested from Vrudhachalam assembly seat and won and became an MLA. In 2011, he contested from Rishivanthiyam constituency and won.
He was the Leader of the Opposition from 2011 to 2016. The DMK suffered defeats in subsequent elections. Vijayakanth has kept away from active politics due to poor health and has been meeting his volunteers from time to time.
In this case, Vijayakanth met the volunteers at the DMD office in Coimbatore, Chennai. He was accompanied by his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth and son Shanmuga Pandian.
Vijayakanth met the volunteers and cheered the volunteers by raising both arms. Volunteers thronged the Demudika office to see Vijayakanth. They brought many items like temple offerings and jewelery.
The leaders wished Vijayakanth to continue serving the people with full health. Earlier yesterday, Premalatha Vijayakanth had said that volunteers can meet Vijayakanth on his birthday.
