Veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. Harbhajan, one of India’s all-time great spinners, has announced on Twitter that he is ending his 23-year cricket career.

Harbhajan made his international debut for India in 1998 in a Test match against Australia in Chennai. Harbhajan was soon able to establish himself in a team where world-class spinners were born. The right-handed off-spinner was soon able to become one of the match winners of the Indian team.

Harbhajan was instrumental in many of India’s historic victories. After years of stellar performances in Tests and ODIs for India, Harbhajan has also shown his dominance in cricket’s newcomer T20s. Harbhajan also played a key role in India’s victory in the first edition of the T20 World Cup. He was also a key figure in the team that won the ODI World Cup in 2011 after the 2007 T20 World Cup.

He played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs and 20 Twenty20 Internationals for India and became the first Indian bowler to score a hat-trick in Tests. He has taken 711 wickets in international cricket, including two centuries and nine fifties.

Apart from international cricket, he was also instrumental in the IPL. Harbhajan, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL last season, has also played for Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Along with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, Harbhajan has taken 150 wickets in 163 matches in the IPL. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians captain Harbhajan has led them to the Champions League title. His best bowling performance was five wickets for 18 runs. He also has a half-century in the IPL. His only half-century of his IPL career came in the 2015 IPL season against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). In that match, he hit 64 off 26 balls.
