Centurion: Harbhajan Singh has announced his retirement from active cricket. The 41-year-old made the announcement via Twitter. Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Irfan Pathan, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Umesh Yadav and RP Singh were among those who greeted Harbhajan as he prepared for the new innings. Now Indian team coach Rahul Dravid shares his memories with Harbhajan. Dravid was speaking on BCCI TV.

Dravid says Harbhajan has gone through various challenges. “Harbhajan is one of the best performers of all time in India. The player has gone through many ups and downs in his career. Overcame many challenges. Harbhajan was the best team man. His debut Test series against Australia will always be remembered. Harbhajan took 32 wickets in the series.

Harbhajan has taken more than 400 wickets in his career. Along with Anil Kumble, Harbhajan led India to many victories. I remember seeing Harbhajan when he was 18 in Mohali. At first glance, I was convinced he was capable, ”Dravid recalled. Dravid added that Harbhajan was a person who always laughed and came forward and fought. Congratulations to him too.

Harbhajan made his Test debut for India at the age of 17 in 1998, taking 417 wickets in 101 Tests. He took 269 wickets in 236 ODIs and took 25 wickets in 28 T20s. He took 150 wickets in 163 IPL matches.

He was a member of the Indian team that won the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Harbhajan, the first Indian bowler to score a Test hat-trick, last played for India in March 2016.
