Harry and the fragile olive branch to Carlo which is already in danger of breaking

Don’t naively believe that an olive branch can have the strength of an oak tree. The one delivered from overseas by the dove Harry to Charles, in Tuesday’s phone call from the prodigal son to wish the king a birthday, is in fact extremely fragile. And above all it risks breaking if the Duke of Sussex were to take the bad news badly – shared in preview by Omid Scobie and which we will read about in ‘Endgame’, his book out on November 28 – which reveals how Charles’ second son would was “kept in the dark” about Queen Elizabeth’s health until hours before her death. The rebellious prince would therefore have been warned very late, by those who knew her long before her, of the poor health conditions of her beloved grandmother.

Perfect timing, no doubt about it, for Scobie’s explosive revelation, which comes out in the ‘historic’ moment of a possible rapprochement between father and son. At loggerheads after the publication of Harry’s book, ‘Spare’, reconciliation between the sovereign and the Duke of Sussex was no longer just a hope, but finally a concrete possibility, after his phone call to congratulate King Charles. Who were also joined by the ‘best wishes’, received during the same call from California, from Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, and the couple’s children Archie and Lilibet, who even recorded a video in which they sang happy birthday to the grampa.

But there is much more: the reconciliation phone call, after six long months of silence, should constitute, according to the intentions agreed on Tuesday, the first of a series of steps towards rapprochement between father and son, who have already arranged a second telephone appointment for the week to come, this time to face and untie the knots of their difficult relationship. Let’s say that, as royal insiders know, in the first the two limited themselves to a warm and kind conversation, while in the next they would address the thorny issues that made them angry. In an attempt, at least in the king’s intention, to put aside the past and focus on the future. But, as they say, when the devil gets behind us, even the best intentions show all their fragility. In the case we are talking about, the weakness could be that of a too thin olive branch.
