Jets Defenseman Haydn Fleury Injured in Collision, Sparks On-Ice Altercation
A frightening scene unfolded during Tuesday night’s game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Vegas Golden Knights as Haydn Fleury was stretchered off the ice following a forceful check. The incident prompted a strong reaction from both teams, culminating in a fight after play resumed.
The incident occurred in the first period when Vegas Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar checked Fleury in the chest. The Winnipeg defenseman’s back absorbed the majority of the impact as he collided with the boards behind the net.
Winnipeg’s players immediately rushed to Fleury’s aid, demonstrating a powerful display of team solidarity as medical personnel attended to the injured athlete. He was subsequently removed from the ice and transported for further medical evaluation.
Following the stoppage of play, tensions remained high. Upon the game’s resumption, Winnipeg’s Adam Lowry engaged in a fight with Kolesar, seemingly in response to the hit on Fleury.
Fleury, a 29-year-old Canadian defenseman, is currently in his second season with the Jets. Prior to joining Winnipeg, he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Seattle Kraken, Anaheim Ducks, and Carolina Hurricanes. Throughout his career, Fleury has recorded 10 goals and 44 points.
The extent of Fleury’s injuries remains unknown at this time, and further updates will be provided as they become available. The incident underscores the inherent risks within the sport of hockey and the strong bonds forged between teammates.
