Help for Ukraine and Samos: Decrease in clothing donations, record result in medical supplies

During the last collection campaign for winter clothing, the Volunteers for Humanity association recorded a decrease. However, the main activity, collecting medical supplies, is going very well.

The Aargau aid organization Volunteers for Humanity is recording a decline in clothing donations, but is providing a glimmer of hope with impressive results in medical aid for Samos and Ukraine. While the recent collection of winter clothing fell short of expectations, the association reported in its latest press release a record result of 65 pallets of medical supplies that were sent to the Ukrainian war zone at the end of September.

Volunteers for Humanity have specialized in emergency medical aid since 2016 and work closely with Swiss hospitals, doctors’ practices and medical companies. The large network meant that a large amount of relief material was collected in October, which will soon begin its journey, reports the association.

Private individuals finance collective transport

Last weekend another big event took place in Aarau. Primarily winter clothes, winter shoes, sleeping bags and blankets were collected. According to Marit Neukomm, founder and president of the association, far fewer donations were received this time than in previous campaigns. The more than 30 volunteers managed to sift through all the donations in kind, sort them and stack them on pallets and get them ready for transport by Saturday afternoon. In total, the club filled around 220 boxes or 22 pallets. This includes 60 well-sorted bags of winter clothes, which come from a separate collection from the Aarau Reformed Church, as well as various donations from Freiamt branches.

A big highlight of the campaign was the commitment from a private individual to cover the costs of transporting the collected goods, reports Volunteers for Humanity. A considerable contribution that significantly supports the association’s efforts.
