Hertha BSC clearly won the high-risk game against Hansa Rostock. The Berliners could knock on the top again, but they have to hope for the competition.

More than 20,000 Hansa Rostock fans attended their team’s away game in the Olympic Stadium on Friday evening in the 2nd Bundesliga. However, the guests had no chance against a convincing home team from Hertha BSC. In the end, the capital club won 4-0 (2-0).

Man of the match was Palkó Dárdai. The eldest son of Hertha coach Pál played a major role in Berlin’s success with a brace (18th/59th minute). Fabian Reese had meanwhile scored with a hand penalty (31st). Tabaković scored the final point in a one-sided game (86th).

In the parallel game, Greuther Fürth won late against 1. FC Kaiserslautern 2-1 (0-1). Ragnar Ache gave the DFB Cup finalists the lead in the first half. Robert Wagner equalized for Fürther, who had improved greatly in the second half (54′). The 20-year-old was there again in stoppage time and brought the Ronhof sports park to life (90+5).

Hertha BSC 4:0 Hansa Rostock

The relegation-threatened Rostock team arrived with over 20,000 fans, creating an impressive backdrop for the visitors. However, the kick-off was delayed by ten minutes due to the supporters. Shortly before the game started, they ignited a number of smoke pots and fogged up the pitch.

When the game finally kicked off, Hertha immediately took control of the matter. Haris Tabaković and Palkó Dárdai missed their first opportunities early on (6th/8th), before the Hungarian stood in the right position after a cross from Winkler and headed in an exemplary manner.

Hertha stuck with it afterwards. Tabaković was denied by Hansas Kolke (27th). A few minutes later a whistle sounded. Rhein blocked Kenny’s shot with his hand in the penalty area: penalty for Hertha. Reese pushed in flat left.

There was little to see of Hansa in the second half either. Dárdai managed to nip the guests’ tentative advances in the bud with his second goal. After a counterattack, Winkler stormed off and passed to his teammate, who shot in with his left. Rostock’s resistance was now finally broken. Set up by Maza, Tabaković was also able to celebrate. He deliberately scored his 19th goal of the season into the Hansa goal.

Hertha is thus keeping its last opportunity for promotion open. The Berliners are currently five points behind third-placed Fortuna Düsseldorf in sixth place. HSV and Hannover 96 are in fourth and fifth place. But all three teams still have a game in hand. Hertha must therefore hope for mistakes from the three competitors in the remaining six games.

Rostock remains in 15th place for the time being. However, if Eintracht Braunschweig scores points in the derby against Hannover on Sunday, Hansa would slip to 16th place.

Greuther Fürth 2:1 1. FC Kaiserslautern

A last-minute goal gave Greuther Fürth their first three-pointer since the end of February and plunged 1. FC Kaiserslautern deep into crisis. The cup finalist is threatened with relegation to the 3rd league.

The Palatinate team was the better team in the first section. Ache took advantage of the confusion in the Fürth penalty area and scored to make it 1-0. At first it looked as if the goal was attributed to Elvedi, who had visibly maneuvered the ball into the net. But: The ball had already crossed the line a few seconds earlier when Aches finished.
