High Wind Warning for Southern California: What to Know

by time news

California is facing high winds and potential danger as a high wind warning is in effect for widespread parts of Southern California, including the San Gabriel Mountains and the Highway 14 Corridor. With gusts of up to 93 mph reported in the Santa Clarita area, travelers in these areas can expect persistent strong winds throughout the beginning of the week.

In addition to high wind warnings, downed trees have already been reported, including a downed tree in Mission Hills that lifted part of a sidewalk. The National Weather Service Los Angeles has reported that the winds will peak from the dawn hours to mid-morning and are expected to persist for the next 24 to 48 hours.

A less severe wind advisory is also in effect in the western Antelope Valley until 10 p.m. on Monday, with north winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph predicted.

However, there is some good news on the horizon as the winds are expected to ease late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing calmer conditions for Thanksgiving. Santa Ana winds are expected to be the strongest in the morning hours, and Tuesday’s winds will be slightly weaker. Despite the strong winds, there is hope that the situation will improve as the week progresses.
