A mother’s love can be a powerful, even terrifying, force. That’s the chilling revelation at the heart of Netflix’s new thriller, His & Hers, where the truth behind a series of murders in Dahlonega, Georgia, is far more twisted then anyone imagined.

The six-episode series begins with Anna Andrews (Tessa Thompson) returning to her hometown following the tragic loss of her baby and a year-long, unexplained absence that baffled even her husband, jack Harper (Jon Bernthal), a detective. The town, seemingly safe, is haunted by a dark past. The story unfolds against the backdrop of a small Georgia town haunted by a dark past.

Anna, a news anchor for WSK TV, initially flees to Atlanta, seeking escape from the lingering trauma of her teenage years and a complicated relationship with her mother, Alice (Crystal Fox).Meanwhile, Jack navigates his grief and work as a detective while living with his sister, Zoe (Marin Ireland), and niece, 6-year-old Meg (Ellie Rose Sawyer).

Rebecca Rittenhouse portrays Lexy Jones, Anna’s colleague and rival at WSK TV, who is later revealed to be Catherine Kelly, a childhood friend harboring deep-seated resentment. The deaths of Helen (Poppy Liu) and Rachel (Jamie Tisdale), former high school acquaintances, set the stage for a gripping investigation.

Sunita Mani plays Priya, Jack’s new partner at the Dahlonega Sheriff’s Office, and Pablo Schriber is Richard, a cameraman at WSK TV and the husband of Lexy Jones.

Who Was Behind the murders?

For most of the series, suspicion falls on Lexy Jones, who,as Catherine Kelly, appears to be exacting revenge on those who tormented her in high school. In a dramatic turn of events, Priya shoots and kills Lexy after uncovering her true identity and connecting her to the murders of Rachel, Helen, and Zoe (Marin Ireland).

The Truth About anna’s 16th birthday

Throughout the series, fragmented flashbacks reveal glimpses of Anna’s 16th birthday party, captured on her video camera-a testament to her early aspirations in journalism. These scenes gradually unveil a horrifying truth: Anna was sexually assaulted at the party, with Rachel, Helen, and Zoe not only present but complicit in the attack. Catherine, also a victim, believed Anna had orchestrated the assault and disappeared.

A Mother’s Revenge

In a shocking twist, it’s revealed that Lexy wasn’t the killer. The true perpetrator was Anna’s mother, Alice, who meticulously carried out the murders and framed Lexy. Alice explains her actions in a letter to Anna, detailing how the grief over her granddaughter’s death and the resurfacing of the traumatic video from Anna’s 16th birthday fueled her desire for revenge.

“Nobody really suspects a woman, let alone an old woman, of such violence,” Alice writes, explaining how she evaded suspicion. She planted evidence in Lexy’s lake home, leading authorities to believe she was responsible for the crimes.

Despite Richard’s insistence on his wife’s innocence, no one believes him, as the unthinkable truth-that Anna’s mother was the mastermind-remains hidden. Throughout the series, Alice’s apparent early-stage dementia was a carefully constructed facade to mask her vengeful plot.

Ultimately, His & Hers is a haunting exploration of a mother’s love and the lengths to which she will go to protect her child, even through acts of unimaginable violence. The creator describes the series as a love story, reflecting the profound depths of a mother’s devotion.

His & Hers is currently streaming on Netflix.
