Sweet vengeance
Famed filmmaker Brian De Palma is finally getting back into directing. The director, known for classics like “Blow Out” and “Dressed To Kill,” will shoot his next feature, “Sweet Vengeance,” in Portugal this Summer. The story is reportedly inspired by two true stories of murders, marking his first film since 2019’s “Domino”.

Stan
Karyn Kusama, returning to filmmaking after 2018’s “Destroyer,” will helm “Stan,” a thriller set to shoot this June in Toronto. daisy Edgar-Jones (“Twisters”) and Drew Starkey (“Queer”) will star in the film, which centers on a famous singer and a fan convinced a hidden message lies within her songs. Jordan Rosenbloom penned the script.

peaked
Emma Mackey (“Ella McKay”) is in final talks to join Molly Gordon (“Theater Camp”) in the A24 comedy “Peaked.” Gordon will also direct and co-write the film with Allie Levitan. The story follows two former high school tormentors as they attempt to recapture their past glory at their 10-year reunion.

Untitled Emily Henry Projects
Netflix is planning adaptations of two novels by “People We Meet on Vacation” author Emily Henry: the 2023 release “Happy Place” and 2024’s “Funny Story.”

“Happy Place” revolves around a couple pretending to still be together during one last summer getaway with friends at a Maine beach house, all while navigating a recent breakup. “Funny Story” follows a children’s librarian who finds herself rooming with the ex of her ex’s new partner.

Pro tip – De Palma’s films frequently enough feature split-screen and subjective camera work, creating suspense and disorientation for the viewer.
Did you know? – Daisy Edgar-Jones also starred in the Hulu series “Normal People,” which gained critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of young love.
Reader question – A24 has become known for producing critically acclaimed, independent films with a distinct aesthetic and often featuring emerging talent.
