Amit Shah Holds Meeting with State Officials to Discuss Success in Suppressing Left-Wing Extremism

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah gathered with Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior officials from states affected by left-wing extremism in Delhi today. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the significant achievements made under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in suppressing left-wing extremism and to strategize further efforts to eliminate it completely in the next two years.

During his address to the attendees, Shah asserted that thanks to the cooperation of all states affected by left-wing extremism, major victories have been achieved against the movement in 2022 and 2023. He praised the efforts made thus far and emphasized that the ongoing endeavor has reached a decisive stage.

Shah highlighted the steady decline in left-wing extremism over the past few years, stating that the areas affected by it have significantly reduced since 2019. He revealed that 195 new Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) camps have been established, with plans to establish an additional 44 camps. Shah explained that deploying CAPF against left-wing extremism and strategically placing camps in vacant areas have been key priorities.

The Home Minister went on to mention that the government has been following a policy of completely eradicating left-wing extremism since 2014. As a result of these efforts, Shah predicted that 2022 will witness the lowest levels of violence and deaths related to left-wing extremism in the past four decades.

Highlighting the progress made, Shah cited statistics that demonstrate the decline in left-wing extremism-related violence and deaths. From 2014 to 2023, violence has decreased by over 52 percent, deaths by more than 69 percent, security force deaths by 72 percent, and civilian deaths by more than 68 percent, when compared to the period from 2005 to 2014.

Shah also emphasized the collaboration between the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate, who are closely working with state agencies to prevent the funding of left-wing extremism.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers, the National Security Adviser, Union Home Secretary, Director Generals of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Union Secretaries, State Chief Secretaries, Director Generals of Police, and other senior officers. It provided a platform for exchanging ideas and formulating strategies to combat left-wing extremism effectively.
