The lions managed to break through a hole in the fence and then passed under it. • Following the escape, a state of emergency was declared.

The Taronga Zoo in the city of Sydney published yesterday (Wednesday) documentation of a lion escape that took place about a month ago.

The video shows five lions – four cubs and an adult – escaping from the closed enclosure: the five scratched the fence with their claws and then crossed.

They walked around undisturbed until the site staff noticed the malfunction and declared an emergency.

Visitors to the zoo were asked to seek shelter or leave.

Four lions eventually returned to the cage on their own, while the young cub was euthanized and led into the enclosure.

At the turkey zoo after the drama: “This is our worst nightmare.”

They invited an expert to check the fences and netting of the cages.
