The ruler became concerned about the demographic gap. It turned out, as always, as cynical as possible.
Answering a question from a journalist from state media, Alexander Lukashenko reproached the Belarusians:
— I want to help many children. Why? We need people. Demographic problem… We have that failure of the 90s – it is now affecting us. But it’s not so hot that you women want to give birth today.
This sounded as cynical as possible. Firstly, it was said by a man dressed in military uniform. Who just inspected another military facility and threatened the world with Russian nuclear weapons.
A person who bears personal responsibility for the fact that our country has become a co-aggressor in a war of aggression. Which actually brought foreign nuclear weapons to Belarus, making us all a target.
Who set up a base for Russian criminals with combat experience a hundred kilometers from Minsk, and turned the entire country into a huge military logistics center for the Russian army fighting in neighboring Ukraine. And really, why don’t these women want to give birth today?
Do we need people? At the personal whim of a man shedding crocodile tears over demographics, hundreds of thousands of Belarusians were actually expelled from the country. Many left with their entire families. Many don’t plan to return.
Tens of thousands of men and women, boys and girls, went through the hell of police stations, detention centers and prisons. And they keep going over and over again.
Mothers of many children, convicted for “politics,” are being bullied behind bars. The mother of five children, Olga Zolotar, is not in prison for murder or for storing psychotropic drugs. She was accused of organizing courtyard chats and tea parties accompanied by music.
After her arrest, Pinsk resident Elena Movshuk’s 11-year-old daughter was taken to a shelter. And this is not an isolated case. Polina Sharendo-Panasyuk, a mother of many children, spoke at the new trial about beatings in the colony. This terrible list of stories that demotivate potential mothers can be continued for a very long time.
Is there not enough people in the country? But what does the person who voiced this problem do? He recently signed a decree calling into question the return of tens of thousands of Belarusians to the country.
And the other day an idea was voiced that could provoke a new wave of emigration – primarily young people. And all this is far from a complete list of reasons indicating that the reproach to the Belarusians was completely misdirected.
