Chennai: “Both the Dravidian governments, fearing opposition from the BJP, refused to release the Islamic jailers without a shred of evidence, and now Abu Takir’s life has been lost. How many more Islamic jail inmates is the DMK government planning to sacrifice?” Naam Tamilar Party chief coordinator Seeman said.
In a statement issued in this regard, he said, “I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news that Abu Takhir, who had been incarcerated in Coimbatore for more than 25 years, passed away due to torture. When he was imprisoned in Coimbatore by the DMK government in 2008 for speaking about the genocide in Sri Lanka, I had the opportunity to talk to Abu Thakur. Later, I met him in the hospital, who was suffering from diabetes and arthritis.
Seeing his condition, I urged the Tamil Nadu government many times to release him immediately. The tyrannical attitude of the DMK and AIADMK governments, who mercilessly refused to release him without considering his health condition, is the main cause of Abudakir’s death. My condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and friends of Abu Dhabi and share in their grief.
The DMK government, which came to power by winning the votes of Muslims, promised to release all the long-term Muslim jail inmates if it came to power, and after assuming power, refused to release only the Muslim jail inmates, realizing the betrayal.
Last year in 2008, many DMK members who had been sentenced to more than seven years in prison by the DMK government were released in the name of liberation, including the DMK members who murdered Madurai Marxist Communist Party member Ammaiyar Lilavati. However, none of the long-term Islamic prison inmates were released.
After that, the AIADMK government that came to power in 2017 on the occasion of MGR’s hundredth birthday released 1627 prisoners but did not release any of the Muslim prisoners. DMK, which came back to power, even when it released 700 prisoners on the occasion of Anna’s birthday in 2021, again refused to release only long-term Muslim prisoners and betrayed them by showing religious discrimination.
The Naam Tamilar Party, under my leadership, held mass public meetings in Chennai, Coimbatore and Nagai to condemn such continuous treachery of the DMK and AIADMK against the Muslim people and to demand the immediate release of all the long-term Islamic prison inmates. However, the DMK government, with the help of the authorities, refused permission to the Naam Tamilar Party to continue the protests.
Also, realizing the upheaval among the Muslim people, it set up a committee headed by retired Justice Adinarayanan to look into the issue of the release of the Muslim jail inmates as usual. But it is clear from the fact that even after more than a year since the formation of the group, it has not taken a single step in the liberation of Islam.
In the past, when four inmates including Saboor Rahman and Rizwan, who were incarcerated in Coimbatore, died as inmates, the death of Abu Thakir is a testimony to the fact that the DMK and AIADMK parties will never be a true supporter of the Muslim people.
Their deaths could have been prevented if they had been released on time and given proper medical treatment. But as a result of both the Dravidian governments fearing the BJP’s opposition, they refused to release the Islamic jailers without any proof, and now Abu Takir’s life has been lost.
How many more Islamic jail inmates is the DMK government planning to sacrifice? How is it justified to prevent the inmates from providing proper treatment and leave until the illness is over, just because they are Muslims? Does the DMK government think that only death can bring complete liberation for them?
What is the hesitancy of the DMK government to release the Islamic jail inmates under Section 632 of the Penal Code which states that seriously ill persons can be released? ‘Dravidian model’ is the name for the DMK government to show religious discrimination even in mercy after claiming freedom on the basis of mercy? A prison should be a university that carves out human minds, not a killing ground that mutilates them alive.
Therefore, DMK government will no longer deceive the Muslim people and to fulfill the promise made during the last assembly elections, I urge on behalf of Nam Tamil Party to immediately release all the Muslim prisoners who have been in jail for more than 10 years,” Seeman said.
