The Power/DSL light on your Fritzbox keeps flashing and you have no internet? We’ll show you how to fix the problem.

The Fritzbox series from the manufacturer AVM is considered very reliable – but there are connection problems with these routers from time to time. You can find out here what you can do if the Power/DSL light on your Fritzbox is constantly flashing.

This is what you do if the Power/DSL light on your Fritzbox flashes

If your Fritzbox, which is connected to a DSL connection, is switched on and has successfully established an Internet connection, the LED labeled “Power/DSL” usually does not flash. Instead, in this state it lights up permanently green.

A flashing power LED is an indication that the built-in modem is currently trying to establish a connection to your Internet provider. After restarting the router, this process can take up to ten minutes. However, if the Power/DSL light on your Fritzbox keeps flashing and you therefore have no internet connection, the following measures will help you solve the problem:

  1. First check whether all cables on your Fritzbox are connected correctly. Then restart the router by unplugging it for a few seconds and then reconnecting it.
  2. From a computer connected to the Fritzbox via LAN or WLAN, access the website “http://fritz.box” and log in to the router’s administration interface. Check under “Internet > Access data” whether the device has the necessary login information for your DSL connection and, if necessary, enter it.
  3. Then navigate to “System > Events” and search the messages for possible sources of error.
  4. If one of the recorded events indicates that the router cannot establish a connection, first check whether there are currently known fault reports for your provider using an alternative Internet connection (e.g. your smartphone’s data connection). A common information portal for this can be found at alletreib.de.
  5. If there are no known problems and the Power/DSL lamp on your Fritz!Box continues to flash quickly or twice briefly, contact your Internet provider’s support. He will go over other potential sources of interference with you and help you eliminate them. Your provider’s support staff will usually be able to identify a defect in the router or possible incompatibility with your DSL connection.

This means a red flashing info LED

In addition, AVM routers have additional operating lights that indicate possible error conditions. For example, if the info LED on your Fritzbox flashes red instead of the power/DSL light, this indicates a failed update of the router firmware.

To resolve this issue, restart the router as described above. Then log in to the administration interface and try to install the update manually under “System > Update”.
