The traveling exhibition “How were you dressed? What were you wearing? ” makes a stop from 10 to 18 November at the University of Salento. The exhibition, aimed at raising awareness of the stereotypes that blame victims of rape, was organized for the first time in 2013 by the University of Arkansas Rape Education Center. Set up in the basement of building 5 of the Studium 2000 Complex (via di Valesio, Lecce) on the initiative of the CUG – Unified Guarantee Committee of the University, it was adapted to the Italian context by the Free Synergies Association of Milan and brought to Puglia by the Southeast Women Association.

The inauguration of the exhibition

The inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday 10 November at 6 pm; The Rector Fabio Pollice, the Delegate for Gender Policies Anna Maria Cherubini, the alternate National Councilor for Equality Serenella Molendini, the President of CUG UniSalento Monica Mc Britton and the President of the South East Women Association, Angela Lacitignola, will speak. The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday from 8 to 20.

The initiative is part of the CUG activities for the prevention of gender-based violence, explains Professor Monica Mc Britton, The exhibition questions the prejudices and stereotypes that emerge towards the victims, often held responsible for the mistreatment they suffered. . And it does so by exposing the clothes worn by the victims at the time of the violence suffered: clothes that all women use in daily life, which tell 17 stories of abuse. Effectively, the exhibition therefore makes us more aware that violence is not an effect produced by women’s behavior, but has deeper causes that must be investigated and opposed.
