NCCU Football Standouts Earn BOXTOROW HBCU All-America Honors

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) has been recognized for its exceptional football talent, with offensive lineman Trevon Humphrey and defensive back Jelani Vassell named to the prestigious BOXTOROW HBCU All-America Team for the 2025 season. The announcement, made on December 23, 2025, highlights the growing success of the Eagles’ football program and its commitment to developing top-tier athletes.
Eagles Dominate MEAC Rankings
Humphrey’s selection as a First Team All-MEAC player underscores his pivotal role in anchoring NCCU’s offensive line. His leadership was instrumental in the Eagles’ impressive offensive statistics for the 2025 season. NCCU finished the year with an 8-4 overall record and a 3-2 mark in MEAC play, leading the conference in scoring offense with an average of 33.8 points per game. They also ranked second in total offense, averaging 449.5 yards per game.
The team consistently showcased its offensive prowess, exceeding 450 total yards in five separate games. Humphrey’s protection was particularly crucial for Walker Harris, who was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Vassell Leads the MEAC in Interceptions
On the defensive side, Vassell emerged as a standout performer, leading the MEAC with a team-high five interceptions. He secured two of those interceptions in the season finale against Morgan State, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure. A First Team All-MEAC selection himself, Vassell also contributed significantly to the team’s tackling efforts, finishing third on the team with 57 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss.
Honorable Mentions Reflect Program Depth
The recognition didn’t stop with Humphrey and Vassell. Tight end Luke Bracey, defensive lineman Thomas Johnson, and punter Brandon Bowman all received Honorable Mention accolades, showcasing the overall depth and talent within the NCCU football program.
