Almost every year in the Netherlands 4000 young people between the 18 and 39 years cancerr. They are called AYAs (adolescents & young adults). 20% of AYAs die from their disease.
Cancer in young adulthood has major consequences for education, work, sports, independence, relationships, fertility and plans for the future. Therefore, age-specific care and support is necessary. Money is needed to provide and develop this ‘AYA care’, organize training and conduct research.

The story of AYAs needs to be heard. Because we often need help not only to fight their illness, but certainly also with everything that comes with it in their young adult life; which is perhaps the most bizarre time to get cancer.”

That is why this year for the 9th time the ‘hAYACintenaction takes place. On Friday 27 January 2023 there will be a hyacinth stall in 22 hospitals. Pots of hyacinths are for sale at branches of Ranzijn garden & animal from January 25 to February 11, 2023. The proceeds go to care for young adults with cancer, or: AYAs.
