Nicolas Maduro announced that he will discontinue his use of WhatsApp in Venezuela, opting for WeChat and Telegram instead.
In a speech from the Government Palace, the Venezuelan president claimed that WhatsApp was threatening Venezuela and announced his intention to delete his account.
“I am going to break ties with WhatsApp. Because they are using it to threaten Venezuela. And so I am going to delete my WhatsApp from my phone forever.”

He added that he would export his contacts to WeChat or Telegram messaging apps and asked citizens to forget about the WeChat app. Meta.
“Through WhatsApp they are threatening the Venezuelan military family. The officers. (…) They are threatening anyone who does not speak out in favor of fascism (…). First step: Voluntary, progressive and radical withdrawal from WhatsApp,” added Nicolás Maduro.
Just yesterday Sunday, August 4th, the president asked his national security team for recommendations to regulate Instagram and TikTok for supposedly being “multipliers of hatred and fascism in Venezuela.”

Maduro told WhatsApp to “go to hell. Stop threatening Venezuelans, men and women. Because criminals use it. Criminals have Colombian, Chilean, and American chips.”
