Pope Francis received Javier Milei this Monday in a private audience that lasted almost an hour. After this meeting, a preview of an interview was released in which the Argentine president – recognized throughout the world for having insulted the Supreme Pontiff in the past – assured that he understood that “The Pope is the most important person in all of Argentina”.

The interview, recorded to be broadcast on Monday night, was done over the weekend on the local channel Retequattro TV. Milei made reference to the criticisms he had previously launched against Francisco, and assured:I reconsidered some positions and, from that moment, we began to build a positive bond”.

The president also highlighted the work carried out by the Government since he took office on December 10. “One of the things we have done in these fifty days was to start and implement structural reforms. Of these reforms, 350 were considered urgent and 650 were included in a law, that is, the ‘Bases’ Law. It is interesting, because the central axis has to do with return power and freedom to the Argentines. And then there is a second point: moving towards more competitive market structures,” he explained.

He also pointed out the importance of his arrival to power. “I am the first libertarian liberal to be President, and it is not a feeling, it is a reality, a fact. Philosophically I am an anarcho-capitalist and therefore I feel a deep contempt for the state. I believe that the State is the enemy, a criminal association“, he launched, and went deeper: “They are a group of politicians who agree and decide to use the monopoly to steal resources from the private sector.”

“They do this through investment, trade and theft, therefore The State is also the largest stationary thief in the world. The State steals from you through taxes every day. The State has the power to detain people, but politicians are not affected or see the powers at play,” he continued, reinforcing: “That is why I realized that The only way to enter the system was to dynamite it.”.

Likewise, as he did in his speech at the Davos Forum, Milei once again pointed out against socialism, which he described as a “disease of the soul”: “Pure socialism was defeated by economic theory. I thought it was a mental problem, but I realized it was something much worse.. When applied well, killed more than 6 million human beings”.

Ultimately, he spoke again of the “leader of Catholics in the world,” and assured that he represents a very important institution, “especially in a country like Argentina, which has many Catholic roots.” This statement led to him having to refer to his recent trip to Israel -where he visited important sites for the Jewish religion, such as the Wailing Wall-: “I am Catholic and I also practice a little Judaism.”.

Regarding his roots, he detailed: “I am 75% Italian, because both of my father’s parents were Italian and on my mother’s side they were of Italian and Yugoslav origin. It seems to be quite attractive, because I have an incredible passion for Italian opera. Whenever I could, for work reasons in the private sector, take a trip to Europe, I did it with Alitalia (now ITA Airways) because I could stop in Rome.”
