The Israeli team in ice hockey up to the age of 20 won this evening (Saturday) the world championship for level C which takes place in Sofia, Bulgaria and moved up to level B. The Israeli team is undefeated so far in the tournament after recording a 1:4 victory over Turkey. This victory secured the gold medal in the tournament in light of the points gap that Israel had accumulated.

Israel opened the championship with a victory over the New Zealand team, beating it 8:6. After that, they met the late Bulgaria and beat them 7:3. In its third meeting, it defeated the Kyrgyz team 16:1 in a very convincing victory and proved its place and capabilities compared to the other teams. Tomorrow there will be an additional round of games in which Israel will play against the Mexican team, but as mentioned in light of the difference in points, Israel secured the medal and the ticket to Tier B.

Tier C games of the World Championship were supposed to take place in Israel, at the oneice arena in Tnuvu, but with the outbreak of war on October 7, it was decided to move the games to Bulgaria.
Later, the World Ice Hockey Federation tried to prevent Israel from participating in the championship, with the excuse that it would not be possible to guarantee the safety of the players. Only after the intervention of the Israeli Olympic Committee and the Minister of Sports, Miki Zohar, was approval obtained at the last minute and the team, which continued to train in Tnuvu, left for Bulgaria.
