GIRONAEs says Pelu, she is a thirteen-year-old cat and a member of Girona. Yes, you read that right, pets can now be members of the white-and-red club, in a pioneering initiative that has been very well received: in just a few days, there have been more than six hundred applications . Girona, the first football club pet friendly of the world, is involved in the visibility and commitment to spread the values of protection and respect for animals, who will now also be able to savor the sweet moment of Míchel’s team, co-leader of the League and who this Wednesday will visit Vila -real (7 p.m., DAZN). Girona’s number 1 animal partner, as it could not be otherwise, is Canya, the official dog.

“It’s a good idea, and not to make the mascot a member, but to build the member’s loyalty and bring him closer to the institution. Everything that can be done to make the member happy with Girona is welcome,” explains José Fogliano, the responsible for Pelu, and, of course, a member of the Girona club. “The initiative is more romantic than anything else, but I like it, and that’s why I didn’t hesitate to get involved. For me, Pelu is not a pet, she’s one more of the family. Well, a but no: she’s the queen. Because she does what she wants and when she wants. She gives me a lot of love and I’m excited that she’s also from Girona,” he adds.

Each member has the right to register a pet for free and with permanent validity. Non-members must pay ten euros per season. Among other benefits, the Animal Member Card includes a personalized card with the image of the pet, discounts on official products related to pets, such as collars, feeders or clothing, participation in the annual event of hairy in Montilivi and the possibility of participating in the program Animal Respect de Gosbi, the club’s main sponsor, whose name appears on the front of the shirt.

The project is valued positively by a large part of the white-and-red subscribers, who have been very pleased. In fact, it is common to see on the social networks of many fans and followers images of their pets with Girona badges. Like Uma, a two-and-a-half-year-old boxer from Llançà, who is now also a member of the organization.

This is an action that is added to the already existing ones, such as the distribution of food on trips. “I think it’s very good that the club does all this,” reasons Fogliano, who continues: “Helping people and animals is important. And we’re doing things different from other clubs, an aspect that creates a special personality for us.” From the club’s point of view, it is important that the fans are made aware of animal respect. Gestures like this, from the hand of Gosbi, mean additional value.

Villarreal before Madrid

Five consecutive victories have raised Girona’s mood to extremes. The co-leader of the League travels to Vila-real with the aim of expanding the dynamic and without thinking, yet, about the match that will face him on Saturday against Madrid in Montilivi. “I have the feeling that from the outside it looks like it’s very easy to do what we do and it’s not like that. That’s not the idea. In Vila-real the team has to suffer a lot to win. If not, we won’t do it. And the “The atmosphere that surrounds us doesn’t say that. It’s not talked about much and we have to be clear about it. If not, it’s impossible,” says the coach, Míchel Sánchez, who will make some changes in the eleven.
