II Liga: Gustavo Varela scores twice and Benfica B beats Feirense with a turnaround

by time news

Benfica B recorded their second consecutive victory in the II League after beating Feirense 2-1, in a match on the 24th round.

The “fogaceiros” started the match better and opened the scoring through Nigerian Ochowechi Oche, in the 18th minute. The Reds only managed to react in the second half to Gustavo Varela’s ride. The striker scored twice in seven minutes (47m and 54m) and put Veríssimo’s team ahead.

Benfica B could have extended their lead on the scoreboard, but Nuno Félix wasted a penalty in the 64th minute. Even so, the eagles secured the triumph and provisional rise to 9th place while Feirense is 14th with 24 points (it was their third consecutive defeat).

In turn, Mafra staged a spectacular comeback against União de Leiria (3-2), at the Dr. Magalhães Pessoa stadium, after losing by two goals.

Without winning in four games, Silas’ team had a false start in the match and after seven minutes they were already losing 1-0 (Vasco Oliveira scored). Just before the break, the “Lis” team doubled their lead thanks to a goal from Pedro Empis.

Mafra did not give up and reduced the difference on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute through Lucas Gabriel. About ten minutes later, the visitors reached the level two with a goal from Nibe.

Mafra’s full (and incredible) recovery was marked by a goal from Miguel Sousa after an assist from Miguel Falé, at the start of the final ten minutes.

With this victory, Mafra reached Académico de Viseu in eighth place while União de Leiria is in 11th place.
