Did Aurélien Rousseau present his resignation Tuesday evening after the vote on the Immigration law? Élisabeth Borne assured this Wednesday morning that Emmanuel Macron “did not receive” the resignation of the Minister of Health, contrary to what Le Figaro and AFP announced the previous evening.

“I spoke very late in the night with the President of the Republic who did not receive the resignation of Aurélien Rousseau. So it’s a non-subject (…) We’re going to stop commenting on things that don’t exist,” declared the Prime Minister on France Inter. According to a ministerial source, Aurélien Rousseau, opposed to the Immigration law, submitted a letter of resignation to Élisabeth Borne on Tuesday evening.

Aurélien Rousseau, former chief of staff to Élisabeth Borne, has been in the government since last summer. He had made known his opposition to the version of the text considerably toughened by the right and finally adopted Tuesday evening in Parliament.

Like Aurélien Rousseau, several ministers unfavorable to the bill, such as Clément Beaune (Transport) or Sylvie Retailleau (Higher Education), were received in the evening at Matignon, according to corroborating government sources.
