Impact of Jaffna Vegetable Prices on Dambulla Economic Center and Central Bank’s Import Expenditure

Traders reported that the prices of vegetables produced in Jaffna have been brought down to Dambulla Economic Center.

Carrots, green chillies and yams grown in Jaffna have been brought to Tambulla Economic Centre.

The price is low

Due to this, the prices of all types of vegetables, which were sold at high prices in the past, have decreased by 65 to 70 percent, according to traders.

Especially the Karat, which was sold at 2 thousand rupees, has now decreased from 500 rupees to 600 rupees per unit.

Central Bank

At the same time, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has announced that Rs 13,000 crore has been earmarked for the import of fruits and vegetables into the country last year.

This is stated in the report on import expenditure issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
