Imran Khan’s Lawyer Claims Poor Conditions and Mistreatment in Attock Jail

Islamabad: Imran Khan’s lawyer, Naeem Haider Panjotha, has alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman has been provided with substandard facilities and kept in poor condition at Attock jail. Panjotha made these claims after meeting with Khan on Monday, according to a report by Geo News.

Panjotha further stated that Imran Khan was ready to spend the rest of his life in prison. He elaborated on the conditions of the cell where the PTI chief is currently lodged, describing it as infested with flies and bugs. “The PTI chairman says he is ready to spend the remainder of his life in jail,” Panjotha added.

Imran Khan, the deposed Prime Minister, was arrested on August 5 after being convicted by a district and sessions court on charges of corruption related to the state gift depository. However, Khan denies these allegations. The court sentenced him to three years in jail and imposed a fine of PKR 100,000, along with an arrest warrant.

Following his arrest, Khan was transferred to Attock jail. His lawyer claimed that Khan is being provided with C-class facilities and is kept in a small room with an open washroom. Panjotha also mentioned that police did not show Khan a warrant during the time of his arrest and attempted to break down the door to his wife’s room.

Furthermore, Khan expressed his desire to meet his wife Bushra Bibi in prison, as stated by Panjotha. The lawyer also informed the media that an appeal against the trial court’s verdict will be filed on Tuesday, and Khan has signed a power of attorney.

In another development, PTI petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to transfer Imran Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail. The petition argues that due to Khan’s education, habits, social and political status, he deserves better facilities or A-class treatment in jail. The petition cites Khan’s affluent upbringing, education at Oxford University, and his role as captain of the Pakistan national cricket team to support their argument.

The PTI’s call for improved facilities in jail comes amidst a growing debate over the treatment of high-profile prisoners. The Data Protection Bill Passed In Lok Sabha was the featured video of the day, but concerns about Imran Khan’s situation in Attock jail have garnered public attention.
