A team of highly trained doctors and nurses has been mobilized in disaster situations, with experience both nationally and internationally.

The general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, announced this humanitarian response and explained that the team of health experts includes professionals who have worked in countries such as Haiti and Granada in similar situations. The main focus of their mission will be to provide assistance at the Vicente Guerrero hospital, located in Acapulco, as well as other emergency areas in the region.

In the words of Robledo, “The intention is to attend to the emergency, especially at this time at the Vicente Guerrero hospital, in Acapulco.” In addition to the medical equipment, teams of personnel will be incorporated for conservation tasks, supply of medicines and strengthening of human resources in the health area.

The director of the IMSS also reported that communication with Acapulco has been affected due to the ravages of Hurricane ‘Otis’, which has made it difficult to accurately evaluate the impact on the entity. However, it was highlighted that no material damage was recorded in Ciudad Altamirano and Chilpancingo.

On the other hand, in the city of Acapulco, flooding in buildings and various damages were reported, such as broken glass and objects thrown into the air due to hurricane-force winds. The IMSS is in close collaboration with the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) to coordinate the necessary responses.

It is important to highlight that, despite the passage of the hurricane, the IMSS in Guerrero announced that the services in the Altamirano and Chilpancingo hospitals were not affected, and no impacts were reported in the Oaxaca and Michoacán units.

In an update on Hurricane ‘Otis’, it was reported that this weather phenomenon was downgraded to a tropical storm on Wednesday afternoon while it crossed Guerrero and headed towards Michoacán. Given this situation, the National Water Commission (Conagua) issued an alert for the effects of a tropical storm from Punta Maldonado to the west of Acapulco. The National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) also issued a yellow alert of medium danger in Guerrero and Michoacán. Medical and humanitarian care remains a priority in the region affected by Hurricane ‘Otis’
