Relatives and friends said goodbye to 21-year-old Raphaela Pitsikalis in Crete.
In the Holy Church of Peter and Paul at Chania took place today, Saturday (10/2), funeral her 21-year-old Rafaela Pitsikaliwho passed away after a tough battle with cancer.
Relatives and friends said goodbye to the 21-year-old dressed in whites, in a climate of emotion and pain.
“In difficulties we must try, not to lose our courage, to persevere until the end”, pointed out the member of parliament of Chania, Respect Voloudakis and added that “words are poor, we don’t need to say anything else”as he broadcast it zarpanews.gr.
“We will always remember her smile that lasted until the last moment and her thirst for life” said the MP of Chania, Alexander Markogiannakis.
The Mayor of Chania sent his condolences, Panayiotis Simandirakisasking, “let her example be an example that will accompany her memory, emphasizing that through her struggle, she managed to mobilize solidarity and reflexes and send the message that no one should be alone”.
Rafaela’s mother, who announced the date of the funeral a few days ago, emphasized the wish of the 21-year-old and the family itself, instead of wreaths, whoever wishes to donate to MAKE A WISH Greece.

The brave struggle of Raphaela Pitsikalis
Rafaela, who was facing a rare form of the disease (Ewing’s sarcoma)had chosen to share the battle he had been fighting for the past three years, having an active presence on social media.
Ewing’s sarcoma was diagnosed in June 2020 and the admission to the “Elpida” Oncology Hospital, for the first operation in Greece, initially gave hope.
Unfortunately, in October of 2021 was the first relapse, which was treated with a second operation and radiation. In May 2023there was, unfortunately, second relapse.
Rafaela was hospitalized since August 2023 at the specialized MD-Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston, constantly having her mother by her side and very often her father, who was also in Chania to be next to the rest of the family’s children.
As reported by zarpanews.gr, the awareness of citizens, the solidarity and the lovewas the occasion to collect a large amount of money and for Rafaela to be treated at the US cancer center.
