Everyone must harvest their rice field. The delegation is led by the minister in charge of higher education. Those who must harvest are the Minister of State, Minister of Communication, the Minister of Urban Planning, the Minister of Digital Transition, the Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Health.

After a collective harvest, each member of the government must take care of their plot. Minister Roger BARO, assisted by his team and local women, harvested a good portion in his field. It is a field with an area of 1.25 hectares on which 3 types of rice varieties were sown, namely REMAR 13, bitonkini and NeemaKossi 1. Roger BARO also benefited from the technical supervision of incubated students from ANVAR (National Agency for the Promotion of Research Results) to monitor the evolution of its field.

“Neema is an aromatic variety which adapts to diseases, bitonkini adapts to drought. The different varieties have yields ranging from 7 to 10 tonnes per hectare and cycles of between 118 to 120 days,” confided Moïse KOGO, one of the supervisors.

The minister congratulated his supervisors for the good monitoring of his field. “The trends are very appreciable for the expected harvest. We salute the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation because the issue of food sovereignty is national. It is political and the Head of State set the tone with the initiative for food sovereignty so that everyone has enough to eat in Burkina. We must set an example,” said Roger BARO.

The Minister in charge of Higher Education, Adjima THIOMBIANO, expressed his satisfaction with the appreciable yield of the fields of members of the government. “Research occupies an important place in the government’s vision. It is expensive and whatever the government initiatives, we must also develop endogenous initiatives to support this research. And it is within this framework that the ministers committed themselves by injecting funds.

Today we are able to produce reliable data on the new varieties that have been developed and to see which ones we need to approve,” said Adjima THIOMBIANO. In addition, he clarified that part of the government harvest will be reserved for the internally displaced people of the region who accompanied the production process.
