After the change of technical director (Kovacevic instead of Alves) there are also developments in the matter of the coach, but it is not clear if any change will be made now or if the discussions concern the coming season.

What is certain, however, is that the Dutch coach Pascal Jansen has been in Athens since the morning, together with his representatives, in order to discuss with the red and white players.

Pascal Janssen’s Who is Who

The 51-year-old Dutchman coach was born in London on January 27, 1973. He started his coaching career at the age of 20, when he took over as a youth coach in Haarlem in the Netherlands, where he stayed for five years.

He then took the step abroad, after going as an assistant coach at Al Jazeera in Jordan for one year (1998-1999) and then continuing in the Arabian Peninsula, again in a similar position, after working for one season at Al Wahda (1999-2000 ).

After this short two years spent in… exotic places, he returned to his homeland to take up the position of director of the academy of Fitese. He spent nine whole years there (2000-2009) until he got the opportunity to take up the corresponding position at Sparta Rotterdam. He worked there for three years (2009-2012). In the last year, he also served as an assistant coach, so in the 2012-2013 season he joined Sparta’s staff, but the team could not win promotion and as a result he left.

In the end, this development did not go badly for him, since he found his first job in one of the country’s big teams. In the two years 2013-2015 he took the reins of Eindhoven U19, where he did a very good job and thus won the promotion to U21. After two years (2015-2017) staying there, he took over the position of the team’s academies director. But this only happened for one season, since at the end of the first season, he received an offer to join Alkmaar’s first team as an assistant coach, which he could not refuse.

So he got the job and spent 2.5 years in this position (Jul. 2018-Dec. 2020) working with both Jon Van Den Brom and Arne Slott. In fact, he was the one who took over the reins of the team when he was sacked in early December 2020, taking on a job as a first team coach for the first time at this level.

He stayed there for three years and something, contributing to the development experienced by Alkmaar, with which he may not have won a title, but he played good football, produced several players and even reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League in the 2022-2023 season.
