Lithuania’s Ministry of Economy has proposed to extend the sale of certain types of expired food for 45 days in order to adopt a “more rational approach” to food consumption. It was mentioned in the press service of the department.

“The relevant proposal on making changes in the regulation of retail trade was presented to the discussion of businessmen and responsible bodies,” the message says.

The Ministry of Economy of Lithuania also noted that it is important to give a “rational attitude” to food products and their consumption. when some products have reached the end of their most acceptable period of use, they are withdrawn from sale, although they may still be used for some time.

It is clarified that the speech primarily refers to groceries. Moreover, there should be a clear requirement that the manufacturer’s packaging remains undamaged and that no changes are made to the labels. Special instructions will be given for the sale of expired products.
