It is a question of political heritage, claimed by some, defended by others. A small battle of names around the acronym of what was one of the major parties of the French right from 1976 to 2002: RPR: the Rally for the Republic. It was the deputy (National Rally, RN) of Bouches-du-Rhône and political advisor to Marine Le Pen, Franck Allisio who, sensing a good symbolic shot, fired first.

In June 2023, he announced the refoundation of the RPR, this time acronym for Rally to Rebuild, in the company of the mayor (various right) of Marignane, Eric Le Dissès, former member of the Chiraquien party who passed through the UMP and vice-president of the council. departmental of Bouches-du-Rhône. Not a party, but “the gathering of those who want to rebuild France and turn the page on macronism”, explains the RN parliamentarian, who intends to aspire to it by elected officials and activists who share the ideas of the extreme right.

« We are taking back the old family home left abandoned by our older brothers who went to the camp of the President of the Republic”, insists the one who also created sections of his movement in Aude and Aisne. On February 8, it was in Vaucluse that Franck Allisio, himself former national president of young active members of the UMP, announced a fourth location. The latter was entrusted to an elected Les Républicains (LR) from Carpentras, Marc Jaume – a close friend of the former deputy (LR) Julien Aubert.

Is it this second stone laid in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur which provoked the reaction of Renaud Muselier, president of the regional council? Or the fact that the Allisio-style RPR greedily uses the Cross of Lorraine on its posters, a symbol that Admiral Muselier’s grandson considers as a family gift to the greatness of France? Former “baby Chirac”, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in the Raffarin governments from 2002 to 2005, boss of the RPR in Bouches-du-Rhône for many years, the now regional manager of Renaissance announced, in a manifesto transmitted au Figaro February 14th, the transformation of his regional micro-party, Cap sur l’avenir, into RPR. Acronym this time of Rally for the region.

“A defensive gesture »

Among the eighty signatories of this manifesto, we find other former LR members who have joined the presidential camp: the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, the president of the Bouches-du-Rhône departmental council, Martine Vassal, or the deputy (Renaissance) Marseille Lionel Royer-Perreaut. “We are entirely determined to defend the remarkable meaning of this acronym anchored in the history of our country: the RPR, a popular movement close to the realities on the ground, authentic and warm and which made no concessions to the extreme right”assures Renaud Muselier who promises candidates labeled RPR Sud in the next local elections.
