Giorgos Nikitiadis Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese of PASOK and Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism representing PASOK and continuing his tour of the Dodecanese on Wednesday 8 May visited Symi, honoring the events for the 79th Anniversary of 8 May 1945, the day of the signing of the protocol of the surrender of the troops occupation of the Dodecanese to the allied forces.

On Wednesday morning, Mr. Nikitiadis attended the Doxology chanted in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Ioannis Symi, patron of the Metropolitan of Symi, Tilos, Chalkis and Kastellorizo ​​Mr. Chrysostomos II, then laid a wreath at the Heroes’ monument and watched the parade of the political and military departments.

In the context of his presence in Symi, Mr. Nikitiadis made contacts with friends and party officials of PASOK and together with the party’s MEP candidate Panagiotis Kounakis they conveyed the positions of the European Socialists in view of the June 9 European elections.

After the events, the Dodecanese Member of Parliament of PASOK, Mr. Nikitiadis, made the following statement:

“These days we honor the Victory against the Nazi and Fascist forces and the end of the Second World War. The 8th of May is an important historical point for the history of our country, the Dodecanese and the whole of Europe. Nazi troops surrendered unconditionally to the Allied Powers. Honor and glory to those who gave their lives so that we can live today free, honor and glory to those who even today from here in Symi and the entire Dodecanese protect the sacred institutions of Freedom and Democracy, resisting any malicious revisionism that it comes from the neighbor.”
