In the darkness of the stage, an absent memory: an empty chair under the light bulb that emitted a powerful spotlight. It was crossed by lines of light, six, like the strings of a guitar, a motif that would be repeated throughout the more than one hundred minutes of the show.

In the light of this luminous guitar, the shoes prodigious performances by dancer Sara Baras paid tribute to master Paco de Lucía at the Girona Auditorium on Saturday. The choreographer and dancer from Cádiz filled the audience for the premiere in Catalonia of Flyingwith what celebrates twenty-five years of his company while remembering one of his references.

Accompanied by seven musicians and a dance troupe made up of five women and one man, Baras unfolded the tribute to the guitarist with fifteen pieces grouped in four acts, surrounded by music from Algeciras, but also by Keko Baldomero’s guitar.

The roots became present a Maderaan act marked by black and white and the strength of taconreinforcing the dialogue of the guitar and the dance with the taps of a stick that the dance corps made sound like another foot.

The forcefulness of the tap dance dissolved in Mar, with the dancers barefoot and dressed in blue, moving to the sound of music and waves, until the solemnity of bells and a smell of incense that reached the first rows of seats gave way to rage, but also the acceptance of the loss, of Death.

Celebration and color broke out at the end, with Volarwhich culminated with the audience setting the rhythm to Baras with their hands.

Flying ended again with black, but a festive black, broken again by the six strings of light, to celebrate a company that forms a well-knit community around a flamenco star and show a deep respect for the master.
