In cosmonautics, India is practically on the same level as Japan and is approaching the positions of Russia and Europe. This was announced by the columnist for the American edition of ArsTechnica Stephen Clark.

As Clark admitted, the main achievement of the Indian space program can be considered images from the surface of the moon, which were obtained thanks to the AMS Chandrayaan-3.

The journalist specified that now India has a collection of four space rockets and its own regional satellite navigation system. In addition, about 10 years ago, the country was able to send AMS into the near-Martian orbit.

India is still far behind the U.S. and Chinese space programs, Clarke said, but it is close enough to Europe and Russia to be on par with Japan. He also stressed that the annual budget of the Indian space program is about $1.52 billion, while the cost of Chandrayaan-3 is estimated at less than $100 million.
